Moomin cheese bun

Autumn has also arrived in the Moomin Valley. The leaves are already blown away by the cold wind as the smell of freshly baked buns comes out of the Moomin cottage. Moomin mamma bakes cheese buns, which she eats under a soft and warm blanket in armchair.

If you love Scandinavian tales, you are sure to know the Moomins who live in the Moomin Valley and there happen to be plenty of adventures with them. Meanwhile Moomin mamma surprises family and friends with many delicacies.

I’m going to surprise you now with the cheese bun recipe, which is one of our favorites from the Moomin recipe book.

5 dl milk

5 dkg yeast

1 teaspoon salt

12 dkg grated cheese

60 dkg flour

5 dkg butter

Onto the top of buns

1 egg

12 dkg grated cheese

Crush the yeast into the lukewarm milk and mix well. Add the grated cheese, flour, salt, and finally the soft butter and mix the dough gently by hand. When it is blended well, cover with a kitchen towel and double-raise in a warm place.

Tear smaller pieces of raised dough and form small buns, place them on a baking sheet lined with baking paper and leave them to raise again for a short time.

Beat the egg in a small bowl, then grease the tops of the buns with it, and finally scatter with the grated cheese on top. Bake at 220 degrees Celsius (430 Fahrenheit) for 10-15 minutes.

It will be really delicious with warm cocoa and butter.

Take a peek in and when you're done, tell us how you liked it :)
